Preserving and celebrating the rich and diverse culture and tradition of the Caribbean.
Having a central place for resources ensures easy access to information, support, and services, empowering the community with tools to grow, connect, and thrive together.
Our aim is to establish a Caribbean heritage centre in Reading.
This vision cannot become a reality without your support.
We are not just seeking to obtain a building but to create a multi-purpose space which will meet some of the many needs within the community.
I was the development coordinator for Central Club over 30 years ago. A Heritage Centre for our community was needed then and with the world we are living in it is still needed today as much as ever. This initiative has my full support.
Clive Saunders, OBE JP.
The Caribbean Heritage Centre project is an ambitious and worthy project that is being developed both as a contribution to additional community resource and a permanent place to celebrate the culture and heritage of the African Caribbean Community in Reading, Berkshire. I fully endorse and support the initiative and encourage every one to lend their support for the benefit of the Reading community.
Victor Koroma, Former CEO, Alliance for cohesion and racial equality (Reading) 2012-2024
As Mayor of Reading and someone of Caribbean Heritage, I am proud to support the establishment of a Reading Caribbean Heritage Centre. Reading has a long standing and vibrant Caribbean Community, with three active and valued organisations at its heart. Since the closure of the previous Centre in 2008, there has been a clear need for a dedicated space. This new Centre will serve as a place of cultural preservation, learning and community engagement. Owned by the Caribbean community, but welcoming and inclusive for all. I fully endorse this important initiative and the lasting benefit it will bring to our town.
Glenn Dennis, Mayor of Reading (2024/2025)
Arrived in the UK 1979 Elected to Berkshire County Council in 1981 and served from 1981 to 1998. Stood down from the Council in 1998 when the County Council was disbanded. After supporting many community activities it is my believe that a heritage centre will be of great value to our community whereby young people can familiarise themselves with their history and be utilised for the development of social, educational, recreational and economic activities. Ownership is vested in the community.
